How hard should I train?

It depends what your goal is. If you want to get super fit, then you have to train hard. If you just want to get fit and loose weight, then you only need to train moderately. Below is a method for calculating heart rate intensities to aim for to achieve your goals.

Heart Rate training levels are calculated from you minimum and maximum heart rate measurements and give a good guide to training at the right intensity level.

  • Measure your resting heart first thing in the morning.
  • Measure your maximum heart or enter your age to approximate your maximum heart rate (220 - your age).

Heart rate intensity levels:

  • Fat Burn = <65% HR range
  • Aerobic = 65%-80% HR range
  • Anaerobic = >80% HR range
